The Association of Technical Industrial Engineers of Barcelona (ENGINYERS BCN) has the fundamental goal of ensuring that the actions of its members give an answer to the interests and needs of society with regards to the professional activities of technical industrial engineering and, especially, to guarantee that good practices and the profession’s code of ethics are observed.
Also, the Association has the goal to regulate, represent and defend the profession and the professional interest of its members.
The ENGINYERS BCN works closely with the public administration in all the tasks it has been assigned to.
It also ensures that legislation and the code of ethics pertinent to the profession are observed, as well as taking part in the school curricula, by collaborating with technical schools and other relevant institutions.
The origins of the Association go back to 1958, when the Association of Industrial Engineers of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. On March 30th 1995, the Extraordinary AGM of the then Association of Technical Industrial Engineers of Catalonia agreed to divide the territorial areas of Girona, Lleida, Manresa, Tarragona and Vilanova i la Geltrú, as well as changing the name of the Association of Catalonia for that of Association of Technical Industrial Engineers of Barcelona.
These changes were recognized in the DOGC n. 2131 of November 22nd 1995, with the publishing of Decree 293/1995, of November 7th, by the Catalan Department of Justice, approving this segregation.
The current territorial scope includes the regions of Anoia, Baix Llobregat, Barcelonès, Maresme, Osona, Vallès Occidental and Vallès Oriental.
The association has over 7,500 members, all of whom hold degrees in Industrial Technical Studies and in Technical Industrial Engineering, as well as in the areas of electricity, industrial electronics, mechanics, and industrial and textile chemistry.
The ENGINYERS BCN is organized by procedures that include the association’s bodies, services and departments. Since 2001 it has established a Comprehensive Management System (CMS) that includes quality, environmental and prevention of risks at the workplace management. A world pioneer in professional associations, the ENGINYERS BCN was granted an ISO 14001 certificate for its environmental management in 2001. It later certified its quality management system throughout its procedures and was granted an ISO 9001 certificate.
